CROSSFIRE ANNOUNCES DIRECTOR OF COACHING
The RRSA Crossfire Soccer Club today named George Ley, formerly a Director of Coaching for the River City Rangers, as its Director of Coaching. In that capacity, George will be actively involved in training teams, developing the player development curriculum, and overseeing Skillbuilders and Academy teams for Crossfire.
Ley holds a USSF "A" License and is one of the most experienced coaches working in Texas today. George played nearly 1000 professional games for various clubs in England and in the NASL (Dallas Tornado). After his playing career ended, he entered the coaching profession. He coached the Michelob Ladies to the USASA National Championships, served as Youth Team Coach for Luton Town during the time they were in the top English professional league, was head coach of the USISL Austin Soccadilloes, and served as an assistant coach for the first varsity season of UT Women's Soccer. For the past 12 years, George has coached with the River City Rangers, including seven years as their Director of Coaching (1996-2003).
"We are extremely pleased that a coach with the experience and background that George has will be guiding Crossfire as we attempt to focus Division II and Super 2 youth soccer more on the players and less on the club and structures that detract from the real purposes underlying youth sports," Crossfire committee member, Scott Placek said, in announcing Ley's hiring. "I believe George's hiring shows that there are a number of extremely qualified coaches who think we need to step back and look at how we organize youth soccer, particularly at the initial levels of select play."
Ley will begin his duties with Crossfire during tryouts this upcoming week. Crossfire expects to name additional staff within the week. Crossfire further confirmed that fees for D2 and S2 players have been set at $600 a year, including uniform.
RRSA CROSSFIRE RETURNS IN FALL 2008
In response to rising costs in select soccer, the Round Rock Soccer Association has decided to revive its Crossfire Soccer Club program, which had merged with the PAYSL Sidekicks to form the Revolution Soccer Club in 2005. Revolution later became affiliated with the Dallas Texans and formed Dallas Texans - Austin Division. Crossfire will initially focus on Division II and SII teams .
Crossfire is in the process of interviewing prospective Director of Coaching candidates and assembling a training staff. The club will focus on player development and positive values, and will also provide skills training for the RRSA recreational players. Round Rock Soccer Association has over 1200 recreational players and Crossfire expects to draw heavily from that base.
In reviving the club, RRSA is not severing its ties to the Dallas Texans-Austin Division. DTA will still have practice time at Voigt Fields, and RRSA will continue to support its local players who compete with the DTA club. However, for players who want the experience of select competition, but do not believe it should cost $1000 to play Division II soccer, Crossfire hopes to provide a playing environment in a club atmosphere.
